Welcome to The Bonus Chapter: Around the World Book Club. This month, we’re travelling to the United States.
Our book pick is Kindred by Octavia E. Butler. Blending historical fiction with speculative elements, this powerful novel follows Dana, a young Black woman living in 1970s California who is suddenly and repeatedly pulled back in time to a plantation in the antebellum American South. As Dana struggles to survive in a brutal past and understand the mysterious forces drawing her there, she confronts the realities of slavery and the complex ties between history, identity, and family.
