Author Q&A with Imani Erriu – The Bonus Chapter
Updated: 6 hours ago
Welcome, friends, to another cosy episode of The Bonus Chapter. This week, we are really excited to share a lovely conversation between our host, Ashlee, and fantasy author Imani Erriu. We have always thought of authors as being a bit like rock stars, and Imani joined us shortly after returning from a tour of America and Canada.
Talking about her book Heavenly Bodies, Imani shares that, in her mind, the story focuses on three deep feelings: being heart-wrenching, healing, and hopeful. She explains how she crafts a narrative arc without writing an overly complex plot outline. She also shares her writing routine, which often sees gaps of one to three weeks without any writing at all, followed by intense writing days – and that is really where the magic happens.
For anyone who has read Imani's books, you might be wondering what inspired her settings. She shares some of these key locations with us, including the Lake District.
We always love hearing what authors are inspired by, and in Imani's case, it is not just the Lake District. Picking up a copy of Stephanie Garber's Caraval reignited her passion for fantasy after she had spent years studying the classics at university.
If you have never read a book by Imani Erriu before, you will certainly want to after listening to this episode. If you are already a fan, you are going to love finding out how her stories are crafted and what inspires her.
Please do subscribe to The Bonus Chapter, because we have got much more magic coming up soon.
