The Rose Bargain: A Review

Looking for a fae romance that feels like Bridgerton with a dark twist? Here's why The Rose Bargain Review might show you your next favourite read.

Imagine Bridgerton - But with a Fae Queen

The Rose Bargain Front Cover

Imagine the dynamics of Bridgerton but with a fae queen keeping a watchful eye over the season; this is what you get when you pick up The Rose Bargain. I am quite fond of a YA romance when the mood takes me, because we get that nostalgic coming-of-age feeling, where any future is possible.

In this story, our main character Ivy sets out to save her disgraced family from ruin, by entering into a competition to become the chosen bride of prince Bram. The rules of the game are of course dictated by his mother, Queen Mor, and being fae she has some duplicitous tricks up her sleeve. If the challenges the girls face weren't hard enough, Ivy must also contend with the other prince, Emmett, who can't seem to stay away from her.

"The atmosphere was that of a quintessential English spring, so reading it in early April was perfect timing".

The storytelling was captivating and really felt like you were in the moment. With short chapters, the pace was quick and I kept making time to read more and more. The atmosphere was that of a quintessential English spring, so reading it in early April was perfect timing, in my opinion. I felt really positive whilst reading and it was simply so comforting and exciting.

Twists, Clues, and a nod to The Infernal Devices

There are some little clues dotted throughout the book to help you predict the ending, if you enjoy piecing together puzzles. However, if you are here for the vibes you will be stunned by the final twist near the end. I loved the characters and it reminded me of the dynamic in The Infernal Devices (a fabulous YA trilogy by Cassandra Clare), but with less emotional damage.

The Verdict: The Rose Bargain Review - A Perfect Spring YA Romance

I think this is a perfect spring romance for both young and adult readers, the story is charming and focuses on strength and friendship in addition to love. Short and sweet - the duology is completed this month, so you can dive straight into the sequel once you're done.

Recommended to read if you enjoy: fae romance, YA competition stories, spring reads, Bridgerton-style dynamics, or The Infernal Devices.
