Author Q&A with Jessica Knoll – The Bonus Chapter

In the latest episode of the Bonus Chapter podcast, we were really excited to be joined by best-selling author Jessica Knoll. Every episode of the podcast is unique, and this episode is no exception. One of the most unique things here is the circumstances surrounding it, as Jessica very kindly joined us from her bedroom during a holiday in New York. Our host, Charlotte, led a bright and engaging conversation on behalf of our Chapter 25 book club members who have been enjoying Jessica's books.

During the conversation, Jessica talked about her move from working as Senior Editor on a household-name magazine, Cosmopolitan, to becoming a best-selling author. In fact, she wrote her debut novel, Luckiest Girl Alive, at her kitchen table at 6:30 am for one hour every single day, completing the first draft in just 11 months.

Jessica also shares what the experience of adapting her own work for the screen was like. Luckiest Girl Alive has been adapted into a Netflix film, and Jessica spent four months on set, followed by a year in post-production, including spending a lot of time in editing suites in New York.

A large part of the conversation between Charlotte and Jessica was around Jessica's novel, Bright Young Women. Jessica shares what inspired the novel and why she felt it was essential to tell the story in the way she did. As much as everyone at Chapter 25 loves to talk about the books, we are all equally fascinated by the creative process, and in this episode Jessica Knoll shares very candidly exactly how she creates. She reveals insights such as how writing the book is only 50 per cent of the author's job; the other 50 per cent is publicity, marketing, cover design, and a massive multitude of other things.

If you have read any of Jessica's books, you will find this episode a fascinating look at how she crafts them. If Jessica's name is new to you, then this episode is a brilliant starting point for your journey of discovery.
